Cooksons visit Tofield over the weekend

The Tofield community had the Cookson clan over on Sunday, July 15 for a reunion and “going back to the roots” kind of visit with the Golden Club and Tofield Historical Museum.

“It was a wonderful afternoon with their visit starting out at the Golden Club with a light lunch, followed by a visit to the museum,” said Mary Taylor, president of the Tofield Historical Society.

The Cooksons are a family with a history of being in the community, dating back to the 1800s.

George Cookson Sr. was the first postmaster of Tofield, with the first post office being on a property east of the town of Tofield, on the farm belonging to Ken and Mildred Remple.

In 2004, the Cookson Park was named after them with a dedication ceremony, which was attended by Gary Cookson, then Mayor Gaetan Gendron, and Tofield Historical Society President Fran Schultz.
