Local players bring home gold from Alberta Summer Games

This past weekend Tofield was represented provincially at the Alberta Summer Games 2018 held in Grande Prairie, with local basketball players forming a part of Zone 7.

Coach Brent Anderson, popular among Tofield School basketball fans couldn’t have been more proud as he coached the Zone 7 team to gold.

“It was great to be a part of this team and to make history,” Anderson said. “A zone 7 boys basketball team had never even medaled in Alberta Summer Games’ history so to finish the weekend 5-0 and win the gold meant so much to the team.”

As they went from win to win, they piqued the interest of opposing coaches.

“We were asked a lot where we were from, and as we listed the small communities we represented, they were astounded with the talent we had on our team,” Anderson added.

The age group for the Summer Games is U14 so players who could make the team were mainly born in 2004, with a few born in 2005.

Among the local players on the team were: 2005-born Colby Anderson, part of Tofield Jr. High basketball team, and 2004-born Tanner Brooke from Viking.
