Leaving behind a legacy – bolstering music education

The CW Sears School received a generous donation earlier this month from Tofield’s Edna and Arnold Jones and their family.

The generous sum of $5,000 will be helping the school’s music program, an art that both Edna and Arnold believed in.

“The criteria is that it be spent on the purchase of musical instruments for the use of students in the classroom,” said Randy Jones, one of the sons. “The funds are to be used at the discretion of the CW Sears School for the upcoming years as they see fit. The need for a renewal of instruments is high for the 300 plus students who attend.”

Speaking fondly about their parents, daughter Patricia (Kinahan) Jones said, “Mom and dad were always thrilled to see young people involved in musical activities. Over the years, dad taught many students from Tofield and surrounding areas how to play the fiddle and guitar.”

Having played fiddle music for more than 70 years, Arnold played for dances, helped organize monthly jam sessions in Tofield, and attended many fiddle contests and jamborees across the province, according to Patricia.  . . .
