According to Tofield Fire Chief Dave Oleksyn, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

“In the early hours of Saturday, around 1:40 a.m., the BESC Tofield Station #1 was alerted by a 911 call of a structure fire in town,” Oleksyn said. “We responded within minutes, but only to find an attached garage of a residence fully engulfed by flames.”

Oleksyn further added that once on scene, the firefighters were met by one of the occupants, who was able to escape the fire.

“We were advised that there was a second occupant of the residence who she wasn’t able to locate and was still possibly inside”  . . . contd.
