Tofield School honours Métis culture
Students and staff of Tofield School came together to celebrate those with Métis heritage.
From Wednesday, Nov. 14 to Thursday, Nov. 15 they held many Métis-related events.
Due to icy road conditions the buses did not run on Friday, Nov. 16, and the planned Métis events did not happen because very few students had attended school.
“I make it a personal commitment to share my heritage with my students,” said Kathleen Scheu, high school Science teacher. “Now with the call to action from the Truth and Reconciliation committee there is a renewed emphasis on First Nations, Inuit and Métis in the Alberta school curriculum.”
Every November Métis people celebrate their culture and commemorate the role of Louis Riel. Riel was the voice of the resistance for the Métis people, but for the Canadian government he was a rebel, because he spoke against the Canadian Government and fought for the Métis voice. . . . contd.
