Excitement of Tofield cannabis retail store pushed back to summer

Tofield store was planning to open in January

The excitement of Tofield having the one and only cannabis store in this rural area will have to wait until next summer, as the January opening of Nobal Buds Inc. has been delayed due to unpredictably high demand and lower than expected supply of the drug which is now legal in Canada.

“There’s a moratorium on applications,” said Nobal Buds owner Ian Mansley, who also owns the Tofield Liquor Mart next to the hotel.

Mansley said the government was expecting 250 retail applications in Alberta and instead got 700 which piled a lot of work on them that they weren’t expecting. It delayed applications.

“But we’re still moving forward with it,” explained Mansley, who is partners with long-time Tofield area resident Brad Brooks in the cannabis retail outlet.
