Hutterite colony fire requires Tofield, Ryley, Holden, and Viking fire departments
On Thursday, Jan. 31, the Tofield fire department responded to a structure fire around 6 p.m. at the Hutterite colony.
“It was a chicken barn with a huge square footage,” said Tofield Fire Chief Dave Oleksyn. “We had to call the neighbouring towns in the county for help.”
The barn was about 17,000 sq. ft. according to Oleksyn.
Along with Tofield, the other fire departments – Ryley, Holden, and Viking – came to assist.
“We had to call upon Viking’s tanker with their water support, and by 10 p.m. or so we were able to bring the fire under control,” Oleksyn added. . . . contd.
