Tofield School stands united against bullying

On Wednesday, Feb. 27 the school participated in ‘Pink Shirt Day’ to show solidarity with all those who have been bullied.

“We don’t have to stand alone against bullying, and the original story, which triggered this movement proves that” said Principal Janice Muench. “Bystanders are really important in bullying situations. Just because you were not directly involved in the problem, doesn’t mean you can’t still be a part of the solution.”

Muench added that Pink Shirt Day is a symbol that shows support for people who may be going through a similar situation, also raising awareness about the act of bullying, and the effect it can have on an individual.

“I think the most important thing for people to remember is that they have a voice,” said Assistant Principal Candice McLeod. “I’ve seen statistics where 90 per cent of students are bystanders but are worried for themselves being bullied so they never say anything. Everyone’s voice matters in these types of situations.” . . . contd.
