Elk Island Catholic conducts survey to gauge busing interest
With surveys in Tofield and area already conducted twice in March, this weekend will be the last time that Elk Island Catholic Schools (EICS) will try and get some information as to how many students might want transportation support to St. Luke’s in South Cooking Lake and Archbishop in Sherwood Park.
“This process was started by local Catholics who wanted busing for Catholic education in the area,” said Ryan Stierman, Secretary-Treasurer at the Elk Island Catholic and facilitator of the survey and interest. “There are specific requirements to form a separate school district in an area, one of which is to do a census to determine if the Catholic faith is a minority in the area, and this census will be finished after next week.”
According to Stierman, once the census is completed there will be a community information meeting and then a vote for Catholics who live in the area. . . . contd.
