Family owned Miquelon Hills Golf Course a hidden gem

Considered a hidden gem among local golfers, Miquelon Hills Golf Course in Kingman is only a few minutes drive away from Tofield.

Family owned and operated by Randy and Susan Haselgruber, the golf course also provides seasonal camping, with more than a dozen spots added over the past two years.

“Many of our seasonal campers consider this their home away from home,” Susan said. “It’s been in operation for a while – 36 years – my children grew up here, and many of the long-time campers are like our family now.”

Rupert Haselgruber, Randy’s father, originally designed and developed the front 9 over 40 years ago and along with Randy developed the back 9 around 20 years back.

Randy Haselgruber seen here runs the day-to-day operations of the golf course with his wife Susan.

The front 9 is a Par 27 that is great for the beginner – relaxing and enjoyable, followed by the back 9 a Par 37, which is more challenging among beautiful trees and landscape, according to Susan.

Although there’s a steady flow of customers, it isn’t without it’s fair share of challenges.

“Golfers don’t travel usually during the week, so we depend on the weekends for most of our business,” Susan explained. “And over the last few years since weekends seem to be when we get our rain or wind, people prefer not to venture out and golf.”

Susan also stated that with the seasons getting shorter due to the change in weather patterns, they do not see a lot of golfers until June and last year with early snow, Sept. is when they ended their season. . . . contd.
