Tofield RCMP nabs thief in high pursuit
During the past week, Tofield RCMP responded to 64 calls for service. Included in the calls for service were three 911 hang ups and two false alarms.
On May 7, Tofield RCMP received a call of mischief to a fence at the Tofield Esso. The fence near the dumpster had been damaged.
On May 7, Tofield RCMP received a call of a stolen Chevrolet pickup truck hauling wire and metal on Hwy. 14 heading westbound towards Tofield. The RCMP located the vehicle heading northbound on Hwy. 834. RCMP attempted to use a tire deflation device however it was unsuccessful. RCMP continued to follow the vehicle, which turned onto gravel roads, and entered the northwest side of Beaverhill Lake. The Chevy attempted to cross the lake and became stuck. RCMP police dog services unit attended and began tracking the suspect. The suspect eventually came out and was located my RCMP members who were set up on containment. The male, a 36-year-old male from Wainwright was charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, flight from police, breach of probation, driving while suspended, and drive an uninsured motor vehicle on a highway. He was held for a judicial release hearing and released on $3,000 no cash recognizance with several conditions.
On May 8, Tofield RCMP received a call of a theft from Ryley. The caller advised someone entered the Ryley graveyard and stole several solar lights. . . . contd.
