Tour De l’Alberta celebrates 25 years

This year was a milestone year for Tour De l’Alberta as they celebrated 25 years of cycling in the province.

But despite this big occasion, this year’s race was rife with problems according to Marketing Director Michael MacFynn.

“The routes were being changed right up to the night before,” MacFynn said. “But it’s always a reward to see so many happy faces enjoying the sport we love, especially when we had so much trouble with routes this year due to construction and rain causing sinkholes.”

One of the reasons this race was started originally was to grow the sport of cycling, and that objective hasn’t changed even though the organization and operation aspect of it has changed hands a few times.

Hosting and organizing it for the fourth year, MacFynn added, “This was our fourth year of putting on this historic event; and the whole point of this is to grow the sport of cycling and provide a safe and fun environment that brings people together to experience Alberta’s beautiful countryside and everything a bicycle can do for you.”

MacFynn was 16 years old when he was introduced to the sport and decided to make it a part of his life. . . . contd.
