Lions Club hosts its 17th annual Show ‘n’ Shine

It couldn’t have been a more perfect afternoon for an outdoor event as the sun shone on Tofield’s Main Street and it got busier through the afternoon with residents and guests attending Tofield Lions Club 17th Heritage Classic Car Show on Monday, Aug. 5.

A main staple on the calendar for vintage car aficionados and enthusiasts, this year’s event had a huge turnout.

“Through the years people have become more aware of it; when we first started we only had 30 entries, and now it’s grown to about 200 consistently, and this year we might break that number weather permitting. We started with one block of cars, and now we take up the entire Main Street,” said Jim Warren, a Lions member and one of the event organizers for years now. “Participants and car owners spend a lot of their resources – time, money, effort – on their cars so if the weather gives out, we might not have as many entries.”

All proceeds raised are reinvested into the community.

“The community is very understanding of how the funds are used,” Warren added. “Through the years we have used the proceeds to send a young student to a Leadership Camp, have sponsored bursaries for graduating high school students, have donated to different school projects, such as the ‘Hygiene Program for Girls’ at CW Sears, among other community initiatives.” . . . contd.
