Appreciating the often unappreciated
A couple of weeks ago while I was cheering on my wife Michelle at the Edmonton Marathon, I was fortunate enough to observe some interesting, and even uplifting goings-on that reminded me to appreciate the often unappreciated.
After parking and walking to one of the blockade areas of Jasper Avenue, I chatted with an Edmonton police officer for a brief time in passing. He wanted to know where I was going, and I told him about Michelle working her way up to running marathons and that if her time was good enough that particular day, she would qualify for the world-famous Boston Marathon.
He was impressed by her goal, and wished me well on her behalf.
We agreed that neither of us could understand how these athletes physically accomplish what they do, or why, but it is amazing none the less.
