Tofield skaters haul 25 gold and three silver medals

It was quite the competition for Tofield Skating Club at Wainwright this past December, when ten skaters who participated in the Wainwright multi-level competition brought home 25 gold and three silver medals.

“All our ten skaters participated in two or three individual events, besides the three team events at the competition,” said Head Coach Tracey Zilkie.

Among the participants were Jordyn Charlesworth, Taylor Charlesworth, Emma Zilkie, Sophie Kroeker, Kacie Thorson, Rebecca Whitbread, Jorja Gillian, Kenzey Stevenson, Rhys Jenzen, and Sophia Jenzen.

“Both Coach Sam Daigle and myself are pleased with the outcome, and were happy to see six younger skaters join the more seasoned skaters in making the milestone leap from competing in skill events to a musical program with set required elements,” Zilkie added. “That’s a big jump, to move from skill-based events to running a program with very specific elements that are required, often at higher levels of expected execution. It’s wonderful and exciting to see the club grow and develop skaters at all levels, and to see some of them interested in competing in this fashion.”

For Zilkie, to see them do so well is a testament to their hard work, and dedication. . . . contd.
