Tofield RCMP cautions residents of rampant fraud and scams

Tofield RCMP responded to a total of 46 calls for service in the last week.

On April 13, a fraud was reported to the detachment. A gentleman discovered he had two loans taken out in his name through Money Mart, whom he has had no dealing with. This file is still under investigation. RCMP are reminding people DO NOT release any personal information over the phone. The RCMP received a complaint of a Jeep Cherokee in the ditch located at Rge. Rd. 161 and Hwy. 626. A member attended and found the vehicle stolen from Lamont County on April 7. The Jeep had been rolled several times but no person’s were located at the scene.

On April 14, RCMP received a report that the Battle River School Bus Yard had been broken into sometime in the last week. Access was gained through an unlocked gate. Some damage had been done to one of the buses but nothing appeared stolen.

During the early morning hours of April 14, a pursuit was initiated near Beaumont, which continued through Leduc and Edmonton areas. The suspect vehicle was located in Tofield’s detachment area. With the assistance of PDS (Police Dog Services) and Air One from Edmonton Police Service, the two suspects were tracked to a farm yard located on Rge. Rd. 195, north of the Highway. The track was lost when the suspects ran through a cattle pen.

On April 15, Tofield RCMP were notified that a male and a female were hiding in the same farm yard. Members attended and with the help of the farm owner, . . . contd.
