Snow Goose migration in full swing, Festival might be back in 2022

The Snow Goose Festival, which was to be revived in 2020, will be back next year, circumstances permitting. As of now there’s a strong possibility of the Festival being held in 2022.

“With the vaccines rolling out, a Snow Goose Festival for 2022 feels very promising,” said Vanita Eglauer, Recreation/Facilities Coordinator – Town of Tofield. “I am starting to get more calls for Snow Goose sightings – so people are not forgetting about the Geese. I’ve prepared some maps and have the information available at the Nature Centre for anyone coming by; its an outside display. I’ve provided information to get to the ebird!”

This is the ideal time to spot flocks of Geese, according to Geoff Holroyd, Chair of the Beaverhill Bird Observatory (BBO), and Chair of the Snow Goose Festival Organizing Committee.

“While Canada Geese are one of the earliest harbingers of spring and are already laying eggs, the spectacular flocks of Snow Geese currently migrating through the county are truly awe-inspiring with their noise and abundance,” Holroyd said. . . . contd.
