Tofield RCMP cautions residents of increased fraud during this holiday season

The Tofield RCMP responded to 36 occurrences from Dec. 6 to 12, 2021 (inclusive). Also included in these calls for service were nine traffic complaints/tickets, nine suspicious person/vehicle complaints, five well-being checks, one 911 complaint/false alarm, four motor vehicle collisions, and traffic enforcement provided by the K Division Traffic Unit.

On Dec. 8, Tofield RCMP responded to a theft complaint in Tofield. RCMP attended and found that a Dewalt table-saw was stolen from outside a residence while un-attended. This file is still under investigation.

On Dec. 8, Tofield RCMP responded to a fraud complaint in Ryley. RCMP spoke to the complainant who advised that they had received a call from someone representing STARS ambulance who advised that they had won a prize although had to purchase a $500 pre-paid VISA to pay for the costs to ship the prize. The complainant did not actually purchase a ticket through STARS and was advised that this was a fraud. . . . contd.
