Strathcona County RCMP out in full force during May long weekend

Strathcona County RCMP and Strathcona County Enforcement Services were out in full force this past May long weekend to ensure the safety of drivers on the roadway. The results of their efforts were significant, with 500 tickets issued and 152 warnings handed out.

Throughout the weekend, numerous check stops were set up to catch any drivers who may be putting themselves and others at risk. One notable check stop occurred on Saturday night on 17th St, Sherwood Park, Alta., where police issued over 6 Immediate Roadside Sanctions in just 1.5 hours.

Speeding was also a significant issue over the weekend, with some drivers clocking in at 165 and 150 km/h on Highway 216. These reckless speeds pose a serious danger to everyone on the road and show the importance of check stops in keeping our roadways safe.

“We want to remind all drivers that speeding and impaired driving will not be tolerated in Strathcona County,” says Supt. Dale Kendall, Strathcona County RCMP. “Check stops will continue to be a crucial tool in our efforts to keep our community safe.”

The results of the May long weekend enforcement efforts serve as a reminder to all drivers to obey the rules of the road and drive responsibly. The safety of all road users is of the utmost importance, and check stops will continue to be a key strategy in achieving that goal.
