High Level RCMP seize 140,800 contraband cigarettes
On March 14, High Level RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS) executed a search warrant at a business in Eleske. As a result, 704 boxes of unstamped tobacco were seized, each box containing 200 cigarettes, for a total of 140,800 cigarettes.
As a result of the investigation, Shaminder Singh (39), a resident of Eleske, was charged with:
- Possession of unstamped a tobacco product;
- Sale of unstamped tobacco product; and
- Possess tobacco products not marked for tax-paid sale.
Singh was released and is to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in High Level on May 13, 2024.
“Thanks to proactive police enforcement, the assistance of our community members, local businesses and their employees, as well as Crime Stoppers, the High Level RCMP, spear-headed by Constable Wendy STEWART, were able to successfully investigate the sale of illegal cigarettes” said High Level Detachment Commander S/Sgt Devron Dittmer. “The High Level RCMP would like to thank our community for their support and assistance in this investigation.”
