Stellar skating performances wow audience at Tofield ice carnival

Christopher Mostert spins his Junior Pairs partner Taylor LeClaire during their breathtaking Novice Pairs routine that won them the national bronze medal in Novice Pairs in January.

The usually wonderful ice carnival put on by the Tofield Figure Skating Club has outdone itself this year with the return of former club member Taylor LeClaire, who recently won bronze in Novice Pairs at the Canadian Figure Skating Championship 2013 with her skating partner Christopher Mostert.

It was a chance to see what the home-town club had helped to foster during LeCLaire’s younger years, having started at the tender age of four to learn figure skating.

After almost a decade with the local group, the 15-year-old moved on to start training with the Ice Palace Figure Skating Club at West Edmonton Mall. It was this club she represented with Christopher, 17, of St. Albert when winning the bronze in January.

Taylor LeClaire smiles as partner Christopher Mostert hoists her high in the air to the amazement of the crowd, performing their winning Novice Pairs routine to a gangster-style Al Capone number at the Tofield ice carnival.

Local girl Taylor LeClaire strikes a dramatic pose while doing her solo to “These Boots Were Made for Walking.” It was a chance to try out the new choreographic number in front of a home town crowd at the recent ice carnival in Tofield.
