The regional water commission is closing its office in Ryley and contracting services out to the Town of Tofield, which will handle the day to day operations of the commission.
The move is effective as of Tuesday, Feb. 1, said Highway 14 Water Commission Chair Ron Yarham. Already Yarham says he has heard from people in Ryley and Holden upset they will now have to travel to Tofield to pay their water bill.
Yarham has already been getting plenty of feedback about recently announced increases to the fixed rate part of the water bill for customers in Ryley, Holden, and Bruce (up 230 per cent), and in rural Beaver and Camrose counties (up 25 per cent).
