Amisk Creek Church built in 1914 being moved for preservation
The Amisk Creek Church, built in 1914, is going to a new home on a privately owned piece of land with the intent of preserving it for posterity.
The church was built with money raised by the Ladies Aide of the church on land donated by Alfred Patterson. Church services were held there until 1964, states Vivien Patterson, whose family has looked after the church until this time.
When the congregation dwindled, the Lutheran Church of Canada no longer wanted the building, she said. “So it sat there for years, with the grounds and cemetery being cared for by the Pattersons.
In the 1980s, a local church group briefly rented it. Later a group was formed to attempt to raise funds for restoration but were unable to raise enough money or grants to complete much more than some conservation projects.”
