Pilot project expensive but could be a better solution than oiled roads
Beaver County will avoid a year-round road ban on six miles of Twp 514, by building up the road using ROADTEK on the half approaching Highway 630; and then applying calcium suppressant to the eastern half.
The problem arises because the 6 miles is used by both country residential acreage owners commuting to Highway 630, and farmers to the east hauling heavy equipment.
Beaver County hopes this split application will allow a more pleasurable commute for residents who use the road from RR194 west, and also keep the dust down for farmers moving equipment on the east side of RR193 all the way to 834.
“Our road superintendent researched ROADTEK, and it appears to have a long life,” said Beaver Reeve Kevin Smook. “But it is a bit of a pilot project, so we will only know over time.
ROADTEK will cost $88,000 per mile. For more see the July 5/16 Beaver County Chronicle
