Plane on fire at South Cooking Lake

On Monday, May 21, Kerry Anderson, Tofield Mercury publisher, and his family were out visiting the South Cooking Lake airport when they saw smoke.

“We thought it couldn’t be a fire because there’s a fire ban in effect across the county, and neither could it be a grassfire because the smoke was really dark and rapid,” Anderson said. “It was around 1:45 p.m. As we went closer, we saw a float plane on fire, it was upright and the wings seemed to be attached, so we’re hoping it was a freak accident.”

No one was injured in the accident, according to Anderson.
