Dealing with snow removal in town through one of Alberta’s brutal winters
It has been a long and arduous winter this year, but some rules and bylaws remain in place for taxpayers, for instance snow removal.
According to the Town of Tofield’s bylaw regarding snow removal, it needs to be removed from the premises within 24 hours, however, that hasn’t been the experience of some Tofield residents who have using the sidewalks in town.
The bylaw states that ’whenever snow, ice, dirt or any obstruction forms or is deposited on the sidewalk or sidewalks adjoining any premises occupied or not occupied by any person, or belonging to an owner not residing in town, whether natural or body corporate, all owners or occupants of all premises adjoining or offsetting the sidewalks shall clear away such snow, ice, dirt or other obstructions from the adjoining and offsetting premises within 24 hours after the time when the snow, ice, dirt or other obstructions was deposited or formed on the said sidewalk.’
According to Jeff Edwards, assistant CAO, if a property owner, residential or commercial, has not been cleaning and clearing snow, a letter of notice of remedy will be sent. . . . contd.
