Beaver County Council wants to educate landowners on drainage and other issues
Beaver County Council considered three recommendations regarding the control of a pest and the county’s namesake, the beaver at the March regular meeting.
Council supported developing a wetland strategy that involved public awareness about waterways and the land. Recent developments have shown, stated councillor Dale Pederson, that some landowners are draining water without understanding long term consequences or the need to get legal permits to do it. The first recommendation was to keep the current level of service as outlined in the county’s Pest Control Policy, which means no removal of beavers or beaver dams on private property. This work would still be done on public lands to protect county infrastructure.
Another recommendation was that the level of service on municipally licensed waterways be limited to one annual inspection, which was rejected in a tie vote. The third was actively supported – that administration develop a request for proposals in order to develop a wetland strategy. . . . contd.
