Former Tofield resident breaks Canadian record
It was sweet victory for Tofield’s former resident Holli Mack when she broke the Canadian record for the kettlebell one-arm long cycle in Ottawa recently.
“I set a new Canadian national record for the kettlebell one-arm long cycle, which is composed of the clean, followed by the jerk,” Mack said from Edmonton where she now works as a personal trainer.
Elaborating further for those who aren’t familiar with the terms, Mack explained, “Clean is a kettlebell movement that uses the legs and hips to move the weight from the swing into rack/chest position, and jerk implies the kettlebell movement that uses the legs to launch the kettlebell from the rack position to overhead position.”
To achieve this record she had to lift the 24-kg kettlebell for as many repetitions as she could.
“In my 10-minute set, I completed 72 repetitions for the national record.” . . . contd.
