Tofield Ag. Society recognizes Kai Christensen at Sodbuster Rodeo
At the 37th Annual Sodbuster Rodeo, the Tofield Agricultural Society recognized former president and director, Kai Christensen on Saturday afternoon, June 1, at a special presentation during half-time.
“We’d like to recognize his many years of service to the organization and to the community,” said Kevin Smook, vice-president of the Tofield Ag. Society. Also present were Tofield Mayor Deb Dueck, and Tofield Ag. Society President Dave Berrecloth.
“Every so often, someone comes along and makes a difference in a community,” Smook said at the presentation. “Today, we would like to highlight just such a person, Kai Kristensen.”
Kristensen and his family moved to Tofield in 1977 and he immediately started to take a role in helping shape this community, according to Smook. The many roles that Kristensen have accepted and volunteered for in the past are as follows:
• Tofield Minor Hockey executive and President 1978 – 1985
• Tofield Town Councillor from 1986 to 1989 and from 1992 to 2004; that’s five terms spanning 15 years including several as Chair of the Community Development Board.
• Director Tofield Agricultural Society 1985 – 2007 • President of the Tofield Agricultural Society 2007 – 2018.
“It was during his time as the chair of the community development board that I first worked alongside Kai and got to know his real passion for this community,” Smook said. . . . contd.
