County pushes resolution for seed plant funding from province
Beaver County Council has passed a motion to propose a resolution for endorsement by the AAMD&C District 5 meeting concerning provincial financial support to modernize seed cleaning plants.
The operative clause in the proposed resolution reads: “Be it resolved that the provincial and federal governments provide financial assistance to seed cleaning plant cooperatives to modernize their facilities to meet the current local needs of grain producers.”
The province had originally cost-shared on grants to municipalities to start up new seed cleaning plants, or upgrades to existing ones. The financial support ended in 1986, but various factors have made the existing facilities in need of upgrades again or replacement.
