Ryley’s Hrabec family recognized for 100 years of farming

Earlier this month, Ryley’s Hrabec family was awarded the Alberta Century Farm and Ranch Award by MLA Jackie Lovely, Beaver County Reeve Jim Kallal, and Beaver County councillor Gene Hrabec at the original homestead.

Hrabec family members display the plaque awarded to them for 100 years of farming.

“We have been farming for more than 100 years and four generations later still going strong,” said Helen Hrabec. “In today’s world of technology and uncertain weather conditions, keeping the family farm going is a challenge for sure and something we all have come to appreciate. They are the people that feed the world.”

Some of the original buildings still stand on the homestead, a relic of the past.

Beaver County councillor Gene Hrabec added, “I think that it was an honour for all of the family to receive the award from the Premier, Minister, and our MLA Jackie Lovely, as well for me to present alongside Reeve Kallal on behalf of Beaver County.

“It was tremendously important to celebrate this as COVID-19 has really taken an effect on rural Albertans’ interactions as well as day-to-day lives. We hope that when we get back to some normality, we could have more of the family celebrate with Uncle Andy!” . . . contd.
