Tofield pharmacy one of the few to have vaccine, booking starts March 10

Tofield’s PharmaChoice will be one of the few pharmacies in the province to administer the COVID-19 vaccine, according to owner, Darren Erickson.

“Ours was one of the pharmacies invited to participate in vaccine distribution by Alberta Health Services (AHS) about a month ago,” he said. “The limiting factor was the amount of vaccine available so only a limited number of pharmacies were chosen finally.”

Extra Pfizer vaccine was distributed in the pharmacies in the urban areas mostly, like Calgary, Edmonton, and Red Deer last week.

“This week AHS included rural Alberta and focused distribution to the pharmacies that did the most flu vaccines for the most susceptible population, which is 75 and over, and also based on geographic areas. The program will expand very quickly with a goal of 1,300 pharmacies by the end of March.”

Tofield PharmaChoice was notified on March 4 that it will receive the Moderna brand of vaccine. . . . contd.
