Jason Kenney hints at vaccination-based easing of restrictions

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney indicated Monday, May 17 that cabinet would be considering a number of factors when determining when and how current pandemic restrictions would ease, not ruling out the possibility of tying it to vaccination rates, similar to what the Province of Saskatchewan has done.

He added that the third wave hit Alberta much harder than Saskatchewan, and that Alberta would be proceeding with a little bit more caution.

“But we will certainly be tying reopening in a large part to the percentage of people vaccinated.” He added, “We need the vaccine cautious people to realize that the ticket to normal is vaccination.”

The focus of the province’s Monday COVID-19 update appeared to be to reiterate the seriousness and validity of the pandemic, and its affect on Alberta’s health care system and population, urban and rural. . . . contd.
