RCMP warn public of jewellery scam
Red Deer RCMP would like to make the public aware of a recent increase in gold scams in the area.
Suspects have approached people in parking lots, gas stations, or other public locations typically offering “gold jewellery” for sale, as gifts, or offer to trade for gas. The jewellery is not genuine and is offered at very low prices.
The suspects often say that they have lost their bank card and are unable to access funds to continue their trip. Suspects are typically driving newer rental vehicles and sometimes have children with them.
These types of incidents can be considered fraud or false pretences and are criminal offences. If you are approached by someone trying to sell gold jewellery, avoid getting involved and call your local police right away to report the incident.
If possible, please provide any licence plate numbers or any photos of suspects or vehicles to help with the investigation.
If you have information regarding frauds within Red Deer please contact Red Deer RCMP at 403-406-2200.
