17th Annual Ry-Tof Slo-pitch tournament held Labour Day long weekend

The 17th Annual Total Ry-Tof Slo-pitch tournament, which took place Sept. 1-3 over the Labour Day long weekend, was another successful event with a total of 80 teams competing for the Jackie Kallal Memorial Trophy.

Tofield Community Hall buzzed with activity last Thursday evening as over 33 different groups and organizations informed the public about the many activities available this fall and winter, and offered them an opportunity to sign up for those that tweaked their interest.

Beaver County supports Wild Pink Yonder fundraiser

Two county councillors were good sports during the Wild Pink Yonder fundraiser to raise money for breast cancer research. They allowed Ryley Mayor Cyndy Heslin to dye their hair pink. Heslin is seen putting pink on councillor Ron Yarham’s hair while Reeve Bob Young looks on with his already pink locks. Councillor Yarham meanwhile, generously donated a horse for a draw to raise money for the cause as well.

Beaver County supported the Wild Pink Yonder fundraising trail ride as it made its way across the county last week while making stops in Viking, Holden, Ryley and Tofield.

RCMP report fatal single vehicle rollover north of Tofield

A young Tofield man was involved in a single vehicle rollover that took his life on Sunday, Aug. 26.

Sgt. Jim Warren re-ports that the accident was discovered about 5 a.m. that day when someone reported a vehicle upside down in the ditch.

County hears complaints regarding landfill layoffs

Beaver County Council discussed an issue regarding Beaver Municipal Solutions (BMS) brought forward by Deputy Reeve Ron Yarham (Division 3) at the Aug. 15 meeting.

Yarham said people have told him on the phone and stated “in the coffee shops” that they are upset regarding recent layoffs at BMS, the regional landfill north of Ryley that employs over 40 people.
