Tom Thumb and Initiation teams take over ice

The Tofield Arena was busy with Tom Thumb and Initiation teams this past weekend, Jan. 27 and 28, as eight teams took to the ice.

“Our tournament went very well and seemed to be enjoyed by players, coaches and parents; we’ve had great feedback so far!” said Kelsey Williams, Tofield Titans and Initiation Director.

The Tofield Legion was a busy place on Friday night, Jan. 26 as it celebrated and honoured one of the greatest poets and lyricists, Robbie Burns, the Bard of Ayrshire.

The evening started with some Highland dancing, followed by the traditional piping of the haggis.

Roof repairs at the Tofield Health Centre have temporarily caused the closure of the heliport, now relocated to the airport until the heliport resumes operations in late-February, weather permitting.

The Tofield Airport is roughly nine-minutes away from the hospital by ambulance.

Ryley citizens group butting heads with Village

The Village of Ryley seems to never be short of controversies, and a battle between administration, council and a concerned citizens group called Ryley Public Advisory Council (RPAC) doesn’t seem to be going away.

The large and vocal group of several dozen citizens is disputing the Village’s past and present spending habits, feeling it knows better where and how to spend monies paid annually to the Village from Clean Harbors as a hosting fee to deflect any negativity caused by having a hazardous waste site overlooking the municipality.

Tofield Tier 4 Novice hockey team fights back from down 3-0 to defeat Wetaskiwin 5-3 on the road

Tofield Tier 4 Novice (1-4-1) beat Wetaskiwin in its own barn Dec. 23, 5-3.

Wetaskiwin was leading 3-0 after the first frame before Tofield fought back to tie the game 12:40 into the third.

Marek Fritz scored the winner with 7:17 remaining.
