County ponders need for second peace officer

Beaver County must decide what level of service it will provide for municipal enforcement. The committee of the whole was asked for direction on such a draft policy which would become the basis for enforcement duties provided by the county.

This is part of the county’s strategic priorities list for this year, explained CAO Bob Beck at the committee’s May 2 meeting.

Quad rules for town and county clarified by RCMP

Tofield RCMP clarified an article on rules for driving all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) or quads, which appeared in the Mercury two weeks ago.

Sgt. Jim Warren states that quads are allowed on county roads, as long as helmets are used and the vehicles are insured and registered.

Tofield RCMP warning of travelling contractors who may be home improvement scammers

The Tofield RCMP are warning the public to exercise due diligence when it comes to contractors who offer to do repairs as they move through the area.

“They surface at this time of year,” said Corp. Dave Brosinsky.

Companies can stop and offer to repair a roof, for instance, give an estimate and ask for funds up front.
