The days between Christmas and New Years are still considered part of the holidays. The decorations are still up and there are enough leftovers in the fridge to make us sick of turkey sandwiches. Once we’ve rung in the New Year and the tree is down, it’s almost like none of that festive stuff even happened. Well, except that my former muffin top resembles a triple layer chocolate devil’s food cake with mocha icing and sprinkles, and I’m singing, “I am a hippopotamus for Christmas.” And then there are the pies.
The Tofield Museum and Nature Centre was the place to be for the Tofield Historical Society’s 50th birthday bash with many dignitaries and local residents, including Lt.-Gov. Donald Ethel and his wife, Linda.
May: A black bear is shot northeast of Ryley after a long winter’s hibernation looking for food by scratching the windows and doors of a house while its occupants were inside. The bear was believed to be about two years old and 200 lb.
April: The Tofield Bull Bash was a resounding success as a first-time event Friday night at the arena.
January: An armed robbery at Tofield IDA occurred when a man carrying a knife forced a pharmacist to hand over a supply of narcotics. The incident took place around 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 27 when a lone male entered the drugstore, went to the back of the pharmacy and demanded drugs from the pharmacist, said Sgt. Jim Warren.
