Tofield RCMP clarified an article on rules for driving all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) or quads, which appeared in the Mercury two weeks ago.
Sgt. Jim Warren states that quads are allowed on county roads, as long as helmets are used and the vehicles are insured and registered.
On April 19, Tofield RCMP recovered a stolen vehicle hidden in some trees at the north end of 52 Street in Ryley. Cpl. Dave Brosinsky reports that the vehicle had originally been stolen in Edmonton and children playing in the area found it.
After the busy time the Tofield RCMP has had dealing with incidents and reports in the area, Sgt. Jim Warren reports that it has been fairly quiet of late.
On Sunday, April 1, three males were arrested after being apprehended in a vehicle that had earlier been stolen out of Edmonton.
A man and woman died shortly after 11 p.m. on April 3 when they were struck by a train northwest of Tofield. A 65-year man and a 57-year-old woman are deceased but Tofield RCMP are not releasing their names at this time.
On March 12, a break and enter was reported at a farm residence just south of Holden. The culprit or culprits broke a hinge on a door to gain access but didn’t appear to have stolen anything inside, said Sgt. Jim Warren.
On March 12, a woman reported a hit and run to her vehicle on main street in front of Tilly’s Restaurant in Tofield. “It appears the offending vehicle backed up and scraped the vehicle causing bumper and tail light damage,” said Warren.
Tofield Emergency Services attended a fatal two-vehicle crash on Highway 16 just west of the entrance to Elk Island National Park on Wednesday, March 7.
Two pickup trucks collided at about 11:45 a.m. while both were travelling west, forcing both vehicles off the road.
