C.W. Sears bids farewell to four retiring long-serving teachers

The community said farewell to four long-serving teachers at C.W. Sears Elementary School during a retirement celebration last Thursday.

Retirees are Principal Joannie Zimmer, Jim Allan, Diane Beckmann and Ron Zimmer.

The informal come and go farewell social took place in the school gymnasium. People could roam around the gym and read about the teaching lives of all four teachers, set up on displays throughout the room.

Joannie Zimmer will end her career as the school’s principal, having taught for 39 years. Starting in 1975, she taught in many places – as close as Camrose and Alliance and as far away as Indonesia and Poland.

She has been an administrator for 17 years, and served as Division Principal for Battle River School District twice.
