This past Friday, July 27 some of CW Sears students graduated from the Reading University program at the University of Alberta Augustana Campus in Camrose.

Started in 2009, this year the program marked its 10th class according to Diane Hutchinson, Communications Officer, Battle River School Division (BRSD).

“So far there have been 600 students who have gone through this program,” Hutchinson said. “The purpose of the program is to support young learners to increase their literacy skills. It is designed for Grade 2 and 3 students who are not yet reading at grade level and is only available to students who are recommended by their teacher.”

The program was started in Camrose and although it ran in Tofield for three years, it was discontinued but in 2016 BRSD was able to expand it to include all areas.

It’s objective is to help the students get a solid foundation in literacy, Hutchinson said.
