Alberta election called for April 16

Alberta Premier Rachel Notley has called the provincial election to be held on Tuesday, April 16.

She will be running for re-election against the leaders of the United Conservative Party’s (UCP) Jason Kenney, Alberta Party’s Stephen Mandel, Liberal Party’s David Khan, and Freedom Conservatives’ Derek Fildebrandt.

Change could be on the horizon and it is the voters’ responsibility to understand who they are choosing as the governing party for Alberta.

For Beaver, change has already happened; voters in Beaver County, Flagstaff County and most of Camrose County are now part of the all new Camrose riding.

The UCP, Alberta Advantage Party, and Freedom Conservative Party are all new to this election. As such they all feature some new faces.

The UCP candidate is Jackie Lovely, the Alberta Party candidate is Kevin Smook, the Alberta Advantage Party candidate is Sandra Kim, and the Freedom Conservative Party candidate is Wesley Caldwell. Morgan Bamford is the NDP candidate for this coming election.

Donald Dubitz is running as an independent, shaking things up even more from the format of 2015’s election.

The Alberta Liberal Party does not currently have a candidate for this riding.

Candidate forums are expected to be announced in the coming weeks, one of the first being hosted by Flagstaff Rural Crime Watch on Thursday, March 28 at Killam Community Hall.
