Training young entrepreneurs with Brain Freeze
It’s not often that youngsters like Joseph (10), Gabby (13), and Ben (15) are seen as vendors, but Tofield has had the unique opportunity to engage with them as part of Brain Freeze, an ice cream cart seen along Main Street and within the town.
It was three years ago when their parents, Justin and Jessica Woodruff were brainstorming how to get their kids on the earning trail.
“We were just wondering what’s the best way to get them to earn some money and decided to go for an ice cream cart to begin the process,” said Justin. “So we looked up online and bought this cart from a guy out of Lloydminster.”
Since then it’s been a good ride for the Woodruffs with this small business. Operating through the summer, depending on the weather they start up in May and go on till August.
“The best part for me is when there’s a spill; that’s when we get to eat the ice cream,” said Joseph, the youngest of the three children who has been a part of it as well from the outset.
According to Justin, Tofield doesn’t have too many places where a lot of people gather.
“There’s the splash park, but it depends,” Justin added. . . . contd.
