Perpetual motion devices
My aversion to winter is no secret. My whining can be heard from mid- October to April. And thinking about winter roads sent me to ask Google who invented the wheel. In the comics it’s the cavemen, but really, what did they need a wheel for? They didn’t even have cars until the Fred Flintstone era and I’m not sure his wheels were round.
Well, according to Google some sources say it was a 17th-century mathematician who was attempting to create a perpetual motion device. Apparently not one of those sources, the Smithsonian did not even mention said math guy, but did claim that cavemen used pottery wheels (??); ancient Greeks invented the wheelbarrow but not for gardening chores; and even sewing needles and the flute were invented before the wheel. Oh, I’m so confused! . . . contd.
