So-called Christmas songs
My favourite radio station started playing Christmas songs at the end of November. They weren’t playing the popular songs we’ve all grown up with, like Here Comes Santa Claus or White Christmas, or any of the many beautiful carols, like Silent Night; nothing that even people who can’t carry a tune in a bucket know all the words to and sing joyfully until the rest of us cover our ears and run for from the room. No, their most popular choice (four times in a half hour) is about Grandpa being run over by a reindeer (unnamed, probably so Rudolph couldn’t sue for defamation).
The family wore black on Christmas and wondered if it was okay to open Grandpa’s gifts. What a classy playlist. Nothing like the death of a grandparent to bring on the Christmas cheer. If it’s the only so-called Christmas song they have maybe they should have waited to start spreading cheer until . . . . contd.
